 MOONDUST

Celebrate the Beauty of Celestial forces

  • This series of table mirrors is inspired by the lunar phases and their impact on the ocean tides. Each standing mirror serves as an artistic interpretation of this celestial phenomenon, offering a glimpse into the invisible forces that shape our world. The handmade ceramic pedestals represent the four phases of the moon - the waxing crescent, first quarter, waxing gibbous, and full moon - each holding a round, inlaid colored mirror marquetry depicting an ocean stream pattern relative to its corresponding moon phase. The mirror series highlights the mysterious and intricate relationships between the celestial bodies and the earth, and serves as a reminder of the importance of understanding these interactions through the works of astronomers and physicists. It is a celebration of the beauty and wonder of the universe, and the power of astral forces that lie just beyond our sight.

"The moon, which is one of the simplest and purest of natural objects, is also one of the most mysterious and complicated." - Immanuel Kant.

The moon and the earth are constantly interacting with each other due to their mutual gravitational pull. The moon's gravity causes the tides to rise and fall on earth, and the earth's gravity keeps the moon in its orbit around the planet. This relationship between the two celestial bodies is an example of the invisible physical forces that shape our world. Additionally, the moon has a significant impact on the earth's rotation and axial tilt, helping to maintain stability on the planet and affecting its climate. Understanding these interactions and the physics behind them can help us gain a deeper appreciation for the mysterious and powerful forces at work in our universe.
